Tennessee Summer Camps and Programs

There are many summer opportunities in communities across Tennessee for children with all abilities including Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, YMCA Summer Programs, Boys & Girls Club and church sponsored camps and programs. The following camp information is geared toward specialty or disability programs available. You may also wish to explore the Junior League Family Resource Center's online Camp Directory , which provides information on summer programs for children with chronic illnesses and disabilities. ParentWorld also lists residential camps, local day camps, summer programs, and after school programs. Many of the camps and programs listed are in the Middle Tennessee region. National camps serving children with chronic conditions are included for some specific conditions.

Address the complexity of various factors that influence the participation of people with disabilities in physical activity, fitness, sports and recreation. .

National Center on Physical Activity and Disability
The Center encourages persons with disabilities to participate in regular physical activity as a means of promoting healthy lifestyles and preventing development of secondary conditions. NCPAD gathers, organizes, evaluates, synthesizes, and disseminates information on the state of the science in physical activity and disability.

National Disability Sports Alliance
NDSA is is the National Coordinating Body for competitive sports for individuals with cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injuries and survivors of stroke. NDSA also provides programming for other physically disabling conditions such as muscular dystrophy and multiple sclerosis.

Special Olympics
Special Olympics is an international organization dedicated to empowering individuals with mental retardation to become physically fit, productive and respected members of society through sports training and competition. Special Olympics offers children and adults with mental retardation year-round training and competition in 26 Olympic-type summer and winter sports.

The U.S. Deaf Ski & Snowboard Association (USDSSA) is a non-profit recreational and competitive organization of Deaf and hard-of-hearing skiers and snowboarders.

United States Deaf Sports Federation
The USA Deaf Sports Federation believes in the consistent and ongoing training and development of deaf and hard of hearing individuals as leaders, coaches, officials, and participants. They provide year-round training and athletic competition in a variety of sports at the state, regional, national, and international level for developing and elite athletes.
